Fast and Pray for A Job – Part 1

Fast and Pray for A Job – Part 1

Previously in my post of “Feeling Lost in Life“, I was told the company has decided not to renew my employment contract. After sending out more than 100+ resumes out globally, I’ve finally received interview invitations. At this stage, I’ve failed one and having another one in two weeks time. So, I decided to have fast and pray for a job contract with the courage from a church sister. She is going to fast and pray together with me for getting a job contract by this month on my desk. I’ve not done fasting prayer before because I get dizzy for skipping meal. I’ve decided to fast from having meat (as I’m a meat lover) and having vegetable soup for both lunch and dinner. Breakfast remaining the same with muesli yogurt and coffee.

Here is the journal of the fast and pray time for a job offer to land on my desk as my contract ending this month. I was googling around what should I really do during the fasting period but no example found. Perhaps someone out there wants to have an initial idea how to do it just like me for the first time. Hopefully this journal could benefit for you who are facing the same situation right now.

Purpose of Fasting : To get a job contract at God’s will and purpose planted in my life
Duration: Monday – Friday
Partial Fasting Recipes : Breakfast (Muesli with yogurt and coffee), Lunch & Dinner (Mushroom Vegetable Soup, 1-2 bananas in between).
Out of routine : Thanksgiving prayers while walking to work in the morning. Had a bowl of soup during lunch break for 10-15 mins and rest of the hour pray to God at a quiet place. Thank God that I have such a quiet place at my workplace without any disturbance. After dinner I continue reading and meditate God’s word using “A long love letter” book and sermons from YouTube. Instead of watching dramas during this time usually.
Notes: Fast and pray isn’t really all about the method of doing it or what kind of food to eat. It is more about the quality time spent with God apart from your usual routine.

DAY 1  God has perfect plan for me

Dear God, even I’ve failed one interview but I would thank you for a better opportunity is awaiting for me. I know God you have the best plan arranged for me and You’re in complete control. After I’ve searched and sent through so many resumes, God will work through my effort. You will open the right door for me even one has closed, and You’ll bring me through the interview process till the job contract lands on my desk by this month. Lord, I just want to keep believing You has the perfect plan for me. In Jesus name, Amen!

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:11-13

Day 2  Believed that I have received

Abba Father, I believe that I have received the job contract and it is well locked in my safety case. I will not worry and doubt for God You’ve created the job offer that is perfectly align with my skills and interests. You have already prepared an open door that I will go through it without any obstacles including my visa status. The remuneration package will be great and sufficient with God’s provision that I do not need to worry. As God you’ve worked the rest, I shall remain trust in You with all my heart, rest in peace and wait for You patiently. In Jesus name, Amen!

24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Mark 11:24

Day 3  Have peace and rest

Thank you Lord today I received another job interview invitation. All praises to you!

Dear Lord, the day before today I still worry and anxious at this waiting stage. Thou my mind knowing I shall not be worry but Lord forgive my weaknesses. Sometimes I still think more than I should and tons of “what if…….” kind of situations playing in my mind. Please help me to defeat the enemy’s lies and help me to stand firm in holding Your promises. Faith is the trust that I believed in Jesus Christ has got the work done. I shall received as I declared and claimed the job contract is mine. No one else would able to take it away for what God had given to me because He will not change His mind and give it to someone else. In Jesus name, Amen!

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

Day 4 Acknowledge God in all ways

Lord, You have the highest power and authority in the universe. I just want to trust You and acknowledge that all that I do is in Your will. Thank you for working out great plan in my life. Not only the job contract will come on the right time, I will not worry about any reallocation issues. In Jesus name that visa process smoothly, great place to stay, sufficient remuneration package, great church community and social life adaptation are all settled by You. I can walk with assurance that You had set the path straight ahead for me. In God’s almighty name I pray, Amen!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs  3: 5-6

Day 5 Sabbath Rest

Sabbath Rest is appearing to me throughout the week repeatedly. Perhaps I have not learned enough to find rest and peace in God.

Dear beloved Father in Heaven, let me lean on You and enter into rest with peaceful heart and mind regardless of my circumstances. As You are partnering with me in this job searching process, I want to leave the part I can’t do in Your mighty hand. I want to trust in You who complete the rest of the work for me. I’m not trying to believe but I do believed and rest in You. Teach me not trying to do Your part and have the complete trust that You have take care the rest of the work for me. I’m speaking in Faith for I have a trustworthy faithful God is working for me. In Jesus name, Amen!

There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works,[e] just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.

Hebrews 4: 9-11
